Joe Stampe is a seasoned executive leader with over 35 years of experience in institutional advancement.
Joe’s career includes groundbreaking work at Hackensack Meridian Health, the largest health system in New Jersey, where he served as Chief Development Officer and Foundation President. He led a first-of-its-kind, comprehensive campaign across seven hospital foundations. The Giving Heals campaign, originally set to raise $150 million, surpassed expectations, concluding on December 31, 2020, with over $240 million raised.
Prior to Hackensack Meridian, Joe was Vice President of Development for Princeton HealthCare System, overseeing all fundraising activities. He played a pivotal role in the Design for Healing capital campaign, which raised over $171 million—funding more than one-third of the total construction cost for a new replacement hospital and campus.
Most recently, Joe served as the inaugural CEO of a start-up nonprofit, leading the creation of a national foundation dedicated to mental health research, clinical care, and awareness through philanthropy. As CEO of the Huntsman Mental Health Foundation, he implemented industry best practices, established core policies and procedures, and defined the foundation’s mission, vision, and values. Collaborating with the University of Utah and the Huntsman Mental Health Institute, he spearheaded a coordinated fundraising effort. A signature achievement was the foundation’s partnership with the Ad Council on the national mental health awareness campaign Love, Your Mind. Under his leadership, annual fundraising increased more than tenfold in just 24 months, driven by a robust grateful patient and family fundraising program and a leadership giving initiative.
Earlier in his career, Joe held leadership roles in institutional advancement, including Vice President for Development at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Assistant Vice President for Development at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. He also contributed to fundraising and advancement efforts at Fairleigh Dickinson University and Drew University.
In 2009, Joe received the Robert J. Smyth Award for Outstanding Professional Fundraiser from the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). A recognized speaker, he has presented at conferences for the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP), AFP, and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and AFP.
Additionally, Joe is a certified presenter in True Colors®, a personality-based model for enhancing self-awareness and teamwork. He has leveraged this framework to facilitate team-building sessions and has presented it at multiple conferences as a tool for fostering philanthropic engagement.
