Although Jack never intended to be a college administrator, he has spent nearly fifty years as a senior administrator in the academy. He has held nearly every academic position during his long career. He served as President of St Michael’s College for eleven years. Prior to this appointment he was Academic Vice-President and Dean of Faculties at Boston College after serving for twenty-two years as Dean of the Carroll School of Management at Boston College.

Throughout his career he has concentrated on improving the academic quality and stature of the institutions he served with the goal of strengthening their position in the enrollment marketplace. This has become critical as institutions wrestle with demographic challenges, the significant rise in student debt, the rapid adoption of various competitive e-learning options and major changes to traditional liberal arts education.

He has served on numerous for-profit and non -profit boards ranging from large medical complexes to major financial service firms. Jack has extensive experience with accreditation associations at both the regional and national level. He continues to engage in issues surrounding higher education, particularly in the face of major demographic declines for this sector. Jack’s marathon days are behind him as resides on an old farm in Vermont where he vainly attempts to keep the flora and fauna at bay.
